Hawker Hurricane

The unsung hero of the Battle of Britain, responsible for more kills than the Spitfire. The Hurricane bore the brunt of the Luftwaffe onslaught.
History
The Hawker Hurricane was the first RAF fighter to exceed 300 mph and formed the backbone of Fighter Command during the Battle of Britain in 1940. While the Spitfire received more glory, Hurricanes outnumbered Spitfires during the battle and destroyed more enemy aircraft. Its robust construction could absorb tremendous battle damage, and its fabric-covered fuselage was easier to repair than the Spitfire's all-metal skin. Designed by Sydney Camm, it served in every theater of WWII. Over 14,500 were built, making it the most-produced British fighter of the war.
